Abstract:
Glioblastoma multiforme (GMB) is among the neoplasma with highly abundant vascular structures. The formation of neovasculature is believed to be the major factor responsible for the growth and invasion of GBM in the brain. The neo-vascularization in GBMs includes vascular co-option, angiogenesis, vasculogenesis, vascular mimicry, and glioblastoma endothelial cell transdifferentiation, which are interlinked in the development of glioma. MR perfusion and their derived sequences have been used to estimate cerebral blood volume, cerebral blood flow and mean transient time, and indirectly measure the tumor vessel caliber and vascular permeability of tumor. Anti-angiogenic therapies can produce normalization of glioma vasculature, which can be also reflected by MR perfusion. So, perfusion weighted imaging (PWI) and other MR techniques can be used as predictive tools to evaluate the pathophysiology of GMB vascularization.
